Coil Boxes and Looper Systems in Rolling Mills and Finishing Lines
Precise position and rotational speed feedback in rolling mills and finishing lines.
Rolling mills involve numerous positioning tasks, such as alignment operations in side compression or shear positioning. In coil boxes, precise speed feedback is critical for smoothly coiling and uncoiling long metal strips. The PMG10 encoder is specifically designed to withstand the high load impact seen in loopers.
Speed and position feedback in coil boxes
In coil boxes, precise speed feedback is critical for smoothly coiling and uncoiling long metal strips, sometimes without the use of a mandrel. Reliable speed feedback enables synchronized and matched individual roll speeds. Constant product geometry also requires position control on the bending rolls.
Position feedback in loopers
During the rolling process, loopers control the amount of strip tension between the rolls. They prevent excess material from accumulating in front of the roll and make a significant contribution to process stability. A narrow measuring angle of less than 90° causes the ball bearings to be exposed to one-sided load. PMG 10 bearings are specifically designed to withstand this kind of unbalanced load impact.
