Automatic Tool Changer — Pressure Sensors
Locked / unlocked state detection
Task
Monitoring the locked and unlocked state by measuring the air pressure above and below the piston head.
Actively monitoring the pressure on both sides of the piston provides an additional layer of safety.
Why pressure sensors?
- Reliable detection that the tool changer has correctly coupled to its mating half is safety-critical
- The integrated fail-safe mechanism built into most tool changers does not by itself prevent faults caused by incomplete latching — direct pressure monitoring closes this gap
- To reliably detect piston position, Baumer offers pressure sensors alongside magnetic and inductive sensor technologies
