Explanation

Pressure gauges are one of the most widely used pressure measuring devices around the world. The "Bourdon tube" principle, developed by Eugène Bourdon in 1849, played a decisive role in the development of this technology.

Bourdon offers mechanical pressure gauges for the precise measurement of relative, absolute and differential pressure, covering measuring ranges from 0…6 mbar to 0…1600 bar and compatible with almost any application.

Mechanical pressure gauges are local indicating devices that do not require an external power source. The indication is formed by the elastic deformation of the mechanical sensing element when pressure is applied. Different types of sensing elements offer solutions for almost every type of application. Many options can be selected to adapt the pressure gauge according to needs, such as environmental compatibility, overpressure protection, safety, custom dials, etc. Proven technologies, many years of experience, modern production methods and a certified quality management system guarantee excellent measurement results even under the most demanding operating conditions.

Bourdon pressure gauges can be custom manufactured to suit your application requirements. You can choose from the full range below:

  • Dial sizes: 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 130 and 160 mm
  • Wet parts: copper alloy, stainless steel or monel
  • Process connections, e.g. G ¼, G ½, ½ NPT, 7-16 UNF, M20x1.5 etc.
  • Measuring ranges from 0…6 mbar to 0…1600 bar
  • bar, mbar, psi, kPa, MPa, mmH2O, inHG vb. skalalar
  • Industry standards: EN837 and ASME B40.100
  • Onaylar: ATEX, Lloyd's Register, NACE MRO103/175, EAC
  • Damping fluids: glycerin, silicone, paraffin
  • Safety indicator: S1 or S3 (EN837) or solid front (ASME B40.100)
  • Differential pressure gauges
  • Pressure gauges with mechanical or inductive contact
  • Customer-specific pressure gauges for many applications

Mechanical pressure gauges are easy to use and do not require an external power source. This provides a reliable, independent and safe pressure gauge even when electronic measurements are not available.

Technology

Bourdon offers a variety of pressure measurement technologies on mechanical devices. In addition to the original Bourdon tube pressure gauge, we also produce capsule sensing elements for low pressure applications and diaphragm and bellows type pressure gauges for special process requirements.

How does a Bourdon tube pressure gauge work?

The operating principle of the original Bourdon tube is based on the use of a tube bent in a C shape. For high pressure ranges, helical pipes are used. When pressure is applied, the bent pipe tends to straighten and return to its circular form in cross-section. This cross-sectional change is almost imperceptible, while the flattening results in a deviation of only a few millimeters at the end of the pipe. The deformation is within the elastic range of the material. The design and manufacturing process of the pipes is done to achieve the best possible repeatability and lowest hysteresis when the pipes are pressurized. This forms the basis for the high accuracy of pressure gauges.

The end of the tube is connected to a mechanism that converts linear deflection into needle rotation so that the applied pressure can be visualized.

Today, original Bourdon products, firmly rooted in the brand's history and 170 years of technological development, can only be purchased from Bourdon, which is part of the Baumer Group.
