Distribution of the Baumer GAPI imaging application [AN201902]

All Baumer GigE and USB cameras from Baumer GAPI SDK v2.9.0

This application note describes the steps required to deploy the Baumer GAPI imaging application on a target system.

The runtime, which is part of the Baumer GAPI SDK, is required to create a custom application. This runtime provides all the necessary components to integrate a Baumer camera and control it with C++ or C#.

On a development system, Baumer GAPI is usually installed using the Windows® installer or Linux® package manager.

The setup does the following:

  • Installs the USB driver and optionally the GigE filter driver
  • Installs several tools and documentation
  • Installs the Baumer GAPI runtime
  • Configures the system as necessary
Attention
Installation of Baumer GAPI via the installer/package manager is not required for distribution of a Baumer GAPI imaging application. All necessary steps can be done manually or integrated into your existing deployment process.

Distribution of the Baumer GAPI imaging application

Create a release version of an app

The Baumer GAPI Programmer's Guide explains how to create an application for the Windows® or Linux® operating system. The Programmer's Guide also explains which header files and libraries should be linked and copied to the target system.

Attention
If USB cameras are not used, the USB manufacturer (bgapi2_usb.cti) and configuration (bsysusb.xml) can be omitted.

If GigE cameras are not used, the GigE generator (bgapi2_gige.cti) and configuration (bsysgige.xml) can be omitted.

Installing the necessary drivers

On a Linux® system, no additional driver installation is required because the standard USB driver (libusb) is used.

To use Baumer USB cameras on a Windows® system it is necessary to install the included USB driver. driver,/driver/is located in the directory. You can find drivers for Windows® 7 and 10, each in x64 and x86 versions.

On Windows® systems, it is useful to use the provided GigE filter driver. This driver helps manage the data stream of GigE cameras efficiently, thus reducing system load. GigE filter driver/driver/is located in the directory. You can find drivers for Windows® 7 and 10, each in x64 and x86 versions.

Driver installation can be done in «silent mode». This is useful for custom installations or integration into deployment processes. Download the installer to learn more about supported command line parameters.bdriver_usb64.msi /?orbdrivermanager.exe /?You can start it with the parameter.

Attention
Windows® 7 Systems Without Service Pack 1

Due to the security requirements of Windows® 10, it is no longer possible to install Baumer GAPI and its drivers on an unpatched Windows® 7. However, with some limitations, it is possible to deploy a Baumer GAPI imaging application on such a system. You will need a development system (with at least Windows® 7 Service Pack 1) on which Baumer GAPI can be installed. A release version of your application can be compiled here and manually copied to the target system.

Limitations:

  • It is not possible to install the Baumer USB driver on a Windows® 7 system without Service Pack 1, so it is not possible to use Baumer USB cameras on such systems.
  • The optional Baumer GigE filter driver cannot be loaded. Therefore the standard socket driver will be used. The socket driver will create a slightly higher system load compared to the filter driver.
