Baumer GAPI SDK for Linux Ubuntu 16.04 with NVIDIA Jetson TX2 [AN201711]

NVIDIA Jetson TX2 Baumer GAPI SDK – Linux Ubuntu Baumer GigE Industrial Cameras

This document describes how to set up the Jetson TX2, an ARM-based single-board computer for use with Baumer Industrial Cameras.

Technical Background

Jetson TX2 is a single-board computer with an ARM-based central processing unit (CPU). It has a quad-core CPU based on ARM-Cortex-A57 64-bit architecture. It also integrates a graphics processing unit (GPU) based on NVIDIA Kepler architecture. Jetson TX2 supports Gigabit Ethernet supporting Jumbo Frames. Data rates specified by NVIDIA are up to 1 Gbit/s.

getting started

Installing a New Operating System on Jetson TX2

To install a new operating system on the Jetson TX2, a host PC with a Linux operating system is required (we recommend using Ubuntu 16.04). For the Baumer GAPI SDK to work, it is necessary to install the Linux operating system version for Tegra R27.1 on the Jetson TX2.

First, download the Driver Package and Sample File System from the link below:

Linux for Tegra Archive

Then follow the guide on the NVIDIA website to install the new operating system:

JetPack Guide

note

Please refer to the Installation Guide for Linux for information on how to connect a camera, capture images, and create an application.

Baumer GAPI SDK Installation

To install the Baumer GAPI SDK, download the Jetson TX2 software package from the website. You can download the software package directly by connecting Jetson TX2 to the internet. Then install the software using the Linux terminal. Change to the directory where the downloaded file is located (for example:/home/user/Downloads).

The filename is as follows:baumer-gapi-sdk-linux-vxxxxx-Ubuntu-16.04-jetson-tx2.deb. [1]

Run the following command to start the installation:

sudo dpkg -i baumer-gapi-sdk-linux-vxxxxx-Ubuntu-16.04-jetson-tx2.deb [1]

[1] xxxxxis a version number.

GigE Performance

Onboard GigE Ethernet Adapter

The onboard GigE Ethernet Adapter has a lower level of performance because it is implemented via a USB3 hub. When using this adapter, it is recommended to use a larger packet delay to avoid corrupted frames.

Ethernet Adapter Via PCIe

For best Ethernet performance, it is recommended to use the PCIe bus of the TX2 card. In this case, a lower packet delay can be used to avoid garbled frames.
