Installation of Optical Distance Sensors

Assembly and Installation

With all distance measuring sensors, it must be ensured that the laser dot is directly visible to the receiver's optical system and that there are no obstacles in the way of the receiver.

With shiny or reflective objects, direct reflection should not hit the receiver. This can be prevented by slightly tilting the sensor.

For optimum measurement results, the sensor should be mounted at right angles to the movement of the object. A simple rule applies for triangulation sensors: for every application, the distance between the sensor and the object should be kept as small as possible. The shorter the range, the better (more than proportional) the resolution and accuracy. Electromagnetic compatibility note: ground the sensor and use a shielded connection cable.
